Twelve Quilts of Christmas – #5
Today’s forecast … bright and sunny with unexpected sunflowers!
Not all Hawaiian quilts have corner appliqué detail. The echo quilting on this quilt makes a strong visual statement in place of it!
Happy Stitching!
Let individuality reign! While many Hawaiian quilts are done on a white ground, not all are and I think this one, done on a red ground, is smashing!
I also like the bolder, less complicated design of this one. It just sings!

Open and fresh! I love how the pert little flowers on the border dance around the edge of the quilt. Yesterday I said there was so much to study. Sooooo true today too. The sweet small sunflower in the middle is adorable!
Happy Stitching!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Pinecones? Pineapples? I say it is a delicious quilt either way!
This quilt breaks with Hawaiian quilting tradition with diagonal lines used instead of echo quilting. Rules are made to be broken, right?!
Happy Stitching!
This quilt is a slightly smaller version of the Dennis Cann Double-sided Cot Quilt, circa 1890-1900 (part of the collection at the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York, England). To say that I had fun making it is an absolute understatement!! My version finishes approximately 20″ x 23″.
You can have fun making it too. You will find the pattern in this season’s issue of Simply Vintage:
